Times Higher Education (THE) have named the University of Manchester as the best higher education institution in Europe – and in the top three globally – for its social and environmental impact.
Dr Julian Skyrme, Director of Social Responsibility at Manchester, said: "Being recognised as Europe’s highest ranking University in this new index – and third in the world overall – is a brilliant reflection of the work of our researchers, teachers, students, professional services and cultural institution staff, enhancing our global reputation as a leader on social responsibility and impact."
The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings is the world’s first global attempt to document evidence of universities’ impact on society, rather than just research and teaching performance. The ranking shows for the first time how the higher education sector is working towards 11 of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, including academic freedom, gender equality and climate change.
