UK Enjoys Record Number of Most Prestigious Universities in World

12 March 2015

The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2015 show that the UK now boasts 12 of the top 100 institutions (up from 10 last year), with both Cambridge and Oxford both improving their positions. London has particular cause for celebration, tied alongside Paris with five universities in one capital judged to have the best reputations.

While London and Paris are in joint top place, London’s universities are rated higher. Imperial College, University College London, London School of Economics, King’s College London and the London Business School all made it into the top 100.

Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education Rankings, said: “This new research confirms what many Londoners must have suspected for some time — no city in the world can match London for world-class teaching and research. Both cities have five each of the world’s top 100 most prestigious universities, but London’s are higher ranked.”
