The University of Strathclyde is a world-leading technological university located in the heart of Glasgow – one of the UK’s largest cities. With more than 23,000 students from over 100 countries, the University of Strathclyde is a vibrant and welcoming place for students from all backgrounds.

The University won the Times Higher Education University of the Year prize in 2019 – becoming the first Scottish university to receive the UK-wide award twice. Strathclyde has also been recognised as the Scottish University of the Year 2020 by the Sunday Times Good University Guide, and were awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize – the highest national honour awarded to the sector. The University of Strathclyde has also been placed fifth in the UK for overall student satisfaction, following analysis of the 2021 National Student Survey by the Times Higher Education.

Each of its four faculties – Science, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences and Strathclyde Business School – work closely with industry, government and policy-makers, supporting an enviable track record of making technologies and innovation applicable for the benefit of society. This relationship with industry has a major influence on both research and taught courses, keeping academic staff and students at the forefront of their discipline.

Services for International Students

The International Student Support Team offers guidance and information to all registered international students, especially those that concern immigration and personal issues. They act as a point of contact to other support services. They also arrange arrival and welcome activities for new international students during the main arrival periods

The International Student Club meets weekly during the academic year and provide an informal forum for students to meet and get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. Social events are planned, including day and weekend tours, international food evening events, trips to the theatre and music concerts. Weekly international meetings also provide a great opportunity for students to meet and make valuable contacts and friends.

The Strathclyde Indian Students Society (SISA) is an Indian community within the University.  Acting as a social and support network for students they do everything from celebrating Diwali and Holi on campus to hosting Ceilidh and Bollywood Nights to ensure Indian students don't miss home during festive times and have an amazing experience during their time at Strathclyde.

Pre-sessional and in-sessional English courses are available and students are also entitled to up to four hours per week of free English language tuition and support. Staff are also available to help with other issues such as visas, employment and accommodation.

Ranking

Strathclyde is a 5-star QS-rated University and was awarded University of the Year in 2012 and 2019 by Times Higher Education, as well as being named Entrepreneurial University of the Year in 2013. They are the current Scottish University of the Year for 2020 and were also awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, the highest national honour conferred on the sector.

In the REF 2021, 57% of Strathclyde's research was rated ‘outstanding’, with 93.2% rated as ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’, compared to sector average of 87.2%. An overall institutional quality profile above the sector average for ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally-excellent’ research of 89% versus 84% in 2014.

Accommodation

Almost 1,500 students live in the campus village, while a further 400 live in University accommodation within close walking distance of the University. Strathclyde offers halls arranged into flats with a shared kitchen, and all international first year undergraduate students are guaranteed a place in University accommodation. A web service is available to connect landlords and students who wish to move off campus after the first year. There are also accommodation options available on-campus for postgraduate students.

Location

The University of Strathclyde is located in Glasgow, Scotland, a hugely vibrant and cosmopolitan city featuring a vibrant arts scene, cutting edge music, and an exciting nightlife. It offers over 20 museums and galleries, and is home to the Scottish Opera, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Royal Ballet. An impressive amount of green space is located in the city centre, with 19th century landscaped parks and gardens surrounding students who require a balance to the urban pace of life.

Students can also enjoy the highlands and islands which located just outside of Glasgow, less than an hour away.
